The Art of Layering

The Art of Layering

Layering necklaces can feel overwhelming and frankly confusing– especially if you're a girl on the go and it’s unchartered territory! The chains get tangled in the back, then stuck on one strand of your hair at the nape of your neck, then all of the sudden you can't seem to get the clasp open! It creates a tangled mess. I am here to help break down what it takes to create an epic necklace stack that way we can keep your sanity (and hairs at the nape of your neck) safe! There are three key components to creating a stack, 1. Chain length 2. Thickness of the chain 3. Style of necklace These play an essential role in developing a stack that layers well and displays your aesthetic that is wholly unique to you!

Let's start from the top - length variation! Our necklaces range from tiny chokers (13") to statement-makers (22")! The key? Space them out like you're creating a jewelry ladder! I recommend trying to get 2” of variation. Pro tip: grab an Extender (available in-store and online) to add that extra 1-3" of *chef's kiss* perfection. A little overlap between pieces? Totally allowed and actually encouraged! The Extender will add this versatility to let you turn your 14” Gemma Chain into a 15”.

The thickness of each chain makes a huge difference - you need variety to keep things interesting! From the classic Narrow Link Chain (think timeless sophistication) to the Sailor Chain (dainty but impactful) and the vintage-inspired Sylvie Chain. Each of these offers intricacy that makes your stack an entire visual experience! The thin dainty chains can lay higher up while the thicker chains fall at the 16-22” mark. Here's a game-changing tip: not only does the combination of thin and thick create variation but pairing your dainty chains with thicker ones can help to prevent the dreaded necklace tangle at the nape of your neck. Our Gigi and Marina Chains are perfect for that! For the dainty lovers out there have no fear- our Layering Clasp is your new BFF - it's like a tiny organizational guru for your necklaces keeping your necklaces laying flat and managing tangles!

Can you rock an all-chain stack? Absolutely! But if you want to take it from "nice" to "NICE!", add in a piece that has something extra like a pendant, gemstone, or pearl! Try our sparkly Quinn or Siri Necklace that features a dainty trio of opals for a subtle pop. Or go bold with the all pearl Elle Necklace or Alexandra Toggle Necklace that showcases one large pearl dangling from a toggle. Want to really make it yours with a fully customized look? Check out our Charm Bar in store or online selection and create your own masterpiece!

Now let's put all of this information together. Start with a necklace that you know you want to wear - throw that on right away! Next add in a necklace that is shorter. Now get one that is longer. Mirror check: did you nail the length, texture, and material variety? All that is left to do is take a selfie, post it to your Instagram story, and tag us!
